Patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) are cared for in the pediatric ICU or the general pediatrics floor depending on the severity of illness.
Initial education is provided by a dedicated staff of diabetes nurse educators . Dietitians and social workers also evaluate all new diabetics. Psychology provides consultation for many of the patients admitted with diabetes for assistance in coping with chronic disease.
