FAQs

What is the drug screening and background check information?

Contact information
Castle Branch - drug test: (888) 914-7279
Missouri Family Care Safety Registry – background check: (866) 422-6872

  • Castle Branch contracts with Quest Diagnostics for the WUSM drug screening. If you are out of the area, you will need to contact Castle Branch to request a new drug test registration form and list of Quest labs in your area. The drug screening is paid for by the Department.
  • Students register with the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry for the background check. There is a one-time online registration fee of $14.25 payable by the student. Results are sent directly to the Department
  • Start the process early as students will not be enrolled in the class until these reports are on file. It can take 2 – 4 weeks for test/screening results to arrive.

Can you give me more details about the Occupational Health Form?

TB test/flu vaccine/immunization record

  • The OHF is completed by the student.
  • The single tier TB test is adequate; a valid TB test report must be on file prior to enrollment.
  • We will accept results that are no more than 6 months old at the start of the semester as results expire after one year from the test date.
  • Documentation of current season flu vaccine is required from October 1st to March 31st.
  • We will accept a photo or screen shot of the required records provided that the location of the test, the test results, and the test dates are clearly legible.

Is "HIPAA 101" on Learn at Work the appropriate HIPAA training?

Yes, the HIPAA training on Learn at Work is fine.

Castle branch scheduled my drug screening appointment in my hometown, is that OK or should I try to change it to a Missouri location?

We contract with Castle Branch so if they sent you to a location in your hometown, that is fine. They will send us the results directly.

Are there 2 classes required from the CITI group of modules?

Yes, One is the Human Subjects Initial Education/Biomedical Research Team.
The other is Human Subjects Electives/Good Clinical Practices.

Here is the link to access CITI through ONE: https://one.wustl.edu/

Do all of the items in the Checklist for the Non-Appointee section have to be completed before submitting step 2?

The Non-Appointee packet was designed for employees, and we are not at liberty to make changes to the forms, so not all of the pages/requirements make sense for PEMRAP. The first two pages of the policies packet are check lists for departments, which you can ignore. You want to start on the form with the bold red lettering, which is the third page.

On the Personal Information Form, if you don't have an office/lab location or employee number, you may leave those lines blank.

TB tests for PEMRAP expire after one year. As an example the oldest test we can accept for Spring 2018 would be from June 2017. Step 3 of the registration packet includes the health form, and more detailed instructions for the TB test, the drug test and background screening, so don't worry about those components just yet.

I submitted my PEMRAP Step 3 files a few days ago, but I haven’t received a confirmation email?

As long as you submitted everything correctly, you will receive a confirmation email within a week.

If you have any questions about the forms please contact the PEMRAP coordinator at PEMRAP@email.wustl.edu. Be assured that at this point in the process, you will not lose your slot.

Will I have direct contact with patients?

You will have some contact with patients/parents, but you will only talk to them. There is no personal contact. You will not be working with blood or body fluids or human cell lines. You will not be working with infectious agents.

What if my background and drug tests haven't come back yet?

There is no consequence to you if your drug screening and background check have not cleared by the deadline, however to avoid this problem start this ASAP. The same is true for the TB test.

I'm behind and won't make the deadline, what do I do?

Those who are behind in the process due to study abroad/travel and certain circumstances, may submit a request for an extension to the deadline.

If you still have questions, please email the PEMRAP Coordinator: PEMRAP@email.wustl.edu
