Other Information: Students should call Liz Scott, 454-6299, one month before start date. Floor assignments will be determined by lottery from floor choices 8 East, and 8 West. Students should on their first day, meet with Dr. Estabrook at 7:30 a.m. for orientation in 5S20.


Valid start weeks for 4-week blocks are: Weeks 1, 5, 9, 13, 17, 21, 25, 29, 33, 37, and 41.

This is the general pediatric subinternship. Student will choose an intern schedule to follow. This will include short, medium and long days as well as 6 consecutive night float shifts. The student will be paired with an intern but will be supervised by the senior resident. The student and the intern will split admissions. The student will be present at all sign out rounds to split up the work and be involved with all of the patients on the floor. Teaching rounds are conducted by the faculty. The elective will provide experience in the management of many pediatric medical conditions (variable depending on floor) and will include the care of patients with various diseases including pulmonary, infectious diseases, gastrointestinal, renal, neurological, endocrine & rheumatologic issues. Additionally, patients with failure to thrive, asthmatic exacerbations, poisonings and undiagnosed conditions may be seen.


Student time distribution: Inpatient 100%; Subspecialty Care/General Pediatrics 100%
Patients seen/weekly: 12
Major teaching responsibility: Attendings and residents
