This program is designed to train academic physician–scientists to conduct research in pediatric infectious diseases and immunity. Infectious diseases remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, underscoring the critical need for investigators who can apply powerful, modern scientific approaches to improve prevention, diagnosis and treatment. A central focus of the program is training in the application of advanced methodologies — particularly microbial and human genomics — to study host–pathogen interactions and immune responses in children.
