Highlights from the 2025 Pediatrics Research Retreat at STL City Foundry

The 2025 Pediatrics Research Retreat was held on April 4th at 18 Rails in the STL City Foundry, a venue with a historical significance as an industrial hub featuring 18 rail lines that once connected St. Louis to the national network. The event attracted hundreds of pediatric researchers and clinicians who participated in research presentations and professional networking.

Fourteen presenters spoke on a variety of relevant topics, including “A Novel Bacteroides fragilis Toxin Confers an Advantage in Interbacterial Competition” and “Differential Protein Expression in Eosinophils in Allergic Airway Diseases.” The keynote address was delivered by Stuart Turvey, MBBS, DPhil, who discussed the importance of the gut microbiome in pediatric asthma and allergies.

The Research Retreat Awards were given to the following individuals:

  • Best Fellow Abstract in Clinical Research: Mithra Lakshmi Narasimhan, MD
  • Best Fellow Abstract in Basic Research: Chatsuda Thamrongsak, MD
