Highlights from the 2026 Pediatrics Research Retreat

The 2026 Pediatrics Research Retreat was held on March 27 at the Eric P. Newman Education Center on the WashU Medicine campus. The event brought together more than 300 pediatric researchers and clinicians for a full day of scientific presentations, discussion and professional networking.

Fourteen platform presenters shared their latest work across a broad range of pediatric research topics. Featured presentations included “Characterization of the ADAM10 Sheddome Identifies Novel Cleavage Substrates During Staphylococcus aureus Infection” and “Primary Care Provider Perceptions of SMART Prescribing for Pediatric Asthma.”

The keynote address was delivered by David Perlmutter, MD, Dean of the School of Medicine, who spoke on the development of drug candidates aimed at restoring key proteostasis pathways to mitigate age‑dependent degenerative diseases.

Two fellows were recognized for outstanding research contributions.

  • Best Fellow Abstract in Basic Research: Jenny Patel, MD (Allergy/Immunology)
