The long-term goal of this program is to train independent investigators capable of making significant contributions to pediatric hematology and oncology research. The program is open to MD and MD/PhD candidates and supports one second-year fellow (PGY-4) and one third-year fellow (PGY-5) each year. Trainees are recruited from the broad network of pediatric subspecialty training programs at WashU Medicine.

Applicants are expected to have strong backgrounds and demonstrated interest in pediatric hematology and oncology research. Only candidates with the highest potential for success as physician–scientists are selected for support. Funded trainees participate in a comprehensive educational curriculum that includes didactic seminars, lectures and journal clubs covering topics such as genomics, epigenomics, developmental biology, cellular therapeutics, clinical trial design and conduct, and survivorship, as appropriate to their individual research projects.

Trainees may pursue postdoctoral research in a wide range of laboratory-based or clinical research environments at WashU Medicine, provided the work is relevant to pediatric hematology-oncology. Training activities are overseen by a program steering committee with expertise spanning these domains.

Through access to the exceptional research and clinical resources at WashU Medicine, this program equips trainees with the skills, mentorship and experience necessary to become the next generation of leaders in pediatric hematology and oncology research.

Applications are available on the Siteman Cancer Center website.
