Trayce Hammons

Tracye Hammons grew up in East St. Louis, Illinois, on 39th Street where neighbors are your family (39th for life!). She was a Flyer at East Saint Louis Senior High School, class of 1982.

Nieces nephew and dad

Before coming to Washington University in St. Louis, Hammons worked in the St. Louis Children’s Hospital Intensive Care Unit for 11 years. There, she worked 12 hour shifts, rotating weekends and holidays. She moved over to WashU after two of her nurse friends (Mary Wood and Lynn Cowan) made a similar career transition, saying “heck yeah” to no longer having to work weekends and holidays.

Rocko

Hammons has been at WashU ever since. She is currently the pre-certification coordinator for the Department of Pediatrics and serves as the self-appointed backup person for the department, willing to do anything for which the department needs help. Her favorite part of the role is learning different things about each division. Hammons has been on the Medical School Campus for 32 years and thinks its a blessing to have witnessed all of the changes in her time here. She is looking forward to retirement, though.

Outside of work, she likes to stay home and take care of her dad and puppy, Rocko. She also loves spoiling her nieces and nephew whenever she can. Hammons appreciates a good book and the occasional, restful nap in her spare time.

“Tracye recently started assisting the Department of Pediatrics with authorizations, and she has been absolutely wonderful! She is prompt and thorough in her work and in her communications. She never hesitates to step in and help and always does so with a great attitude. We are very lucky to have her on our team!”
