Emily Cox has been with the Department of Pediatrics for almost two years serving as a clinical manager for Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine and recently as interim clinical manager for Academic Pediatrics. Cox grew up in the small town of Hardin, Illinois and for many summers, she worked for Baalman Produce planting, picking and selling produce. Over a decade prior to joining WashU, she sold produce at the farmer’s market on WashU campus a few times. ““”It was really a full circle moment for me, and frankly one I had forgotten about, until I came to campus to interview I interview for this job,” she said.
Cox attended Lindenwood University to earn her Bachelors of Science in Athletic Training. she stayed at Lindenwood as a Graduate Assistant working with the inaugural Lindenwood Gymnastics team in 2012, while she pursued her Masters of Science in Healthcare Administration. After graduation, she worked full time in an orthopedic clinic as a certified athletic trainer and physician liaison. she grew into many roles during her ten years in outpatient Orthopedics including sports medicine marketing, worker’s compensation coordination and finally into practice management. Cox served as practice administrator for Signature Orthopedics O’Fallon for four years before moving to her current role at WashU. While the move from Orthopedics to Pediatrics was intimidating at first, she has really loved learning a new medical specialty and the operations of a much larger institution.
Cox is married to her college sweetheart, Drae, and they have three children, ages 14, 8, and 6 and a dog, Leo. As a family, they enjoy camping, hiking, board games, Friday night movie night and athletics. She enjoys gardening, running, reading, watching sports, live theater and trying new things. Fun fact: Cox has been to every U.S. state except Alaska, and many provinces in Canada. She has also visited Mexico and Antigua. She has more plans to travel the world as her kids get older. While she has several desired destinations, her bucket list trip is to Italy and Greece.
